ROW Lecture Tour 2012 - Arlen Germany

This year I had the joy and privilege of staying with my youngest son's in-laws in Arlen near Stuttgart in Germany and meeting the rest of the family, having already met the father who had visited the farm recently. The valley in which they lived still retained much of its rural charm in spite of it being highly industrialised.

I was informed that most of the castings for the engines in the motor vehicles of the world were cast in the factories in this valley.

Some of the largest of steam locomotives one of which has been saved for perpetuity  were also manufactured in this region.

One of the local churches still had on display its Easter decorations in the form of these Easter Eggs.

In keeping with its long history this delightful fountain graced the older part of the township.

The townships medieval houses gave further credence to its age.
